Elastrat’s in vitro models
Elastrat’s in vitro models are compatible with modern imaging modalities such as digital subtraction angiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and, provided the appropriate circulating fluid is used, transcranial Doppler techniques as well. Our in vitro models are transparent and thus suitable for use with video and photographic monitoring.
Elastrat’s in vitro models provide a realistic environment for the simulation of endovascular procedures. Their anatomic configuration respects human cerebro-vascular complexity and makes them excellent tools for hemodynamic studies and teaching purposes.
Simulation rehearsals on Elastrat vascular phantom models provide quality hands-on training experience for the intervening specialist. They take away the pressure by allowing him or her to learn every move of the pending intervention in a risk-free environment. A significant number of incidents in OR are due to errors resulting from inexperience, itself the inevitable consequence of not being able to rehearse patient-specific tasks prior to the operation.
Elastrat simulation training minimizes the dependence on patients and alleviates the fear of learning difficult procedures. Patient-specific procedures can be practised on the simulator until the intervening specialist has mastered every detail of each individual patient’s procedure and can perform the actual intervention with utmost confidence. All procedures are rehearsed from start to finish, thus ensuring the most realistic experience.
It is likely that, in the near future, the use of simulators such as those provided by Elastrat may become mandatory practice in surgical training programmes around the world.
